I have uploaded some pictures of a crane overturning accident that occurred in the Far East a few weeks ago.
They may be a useful for illustrating the importance of checking ground bearing conditions and the use of load spreader plates before allowing a crane to be used on site.
Picture 07 shows some plates on the ground beside the operators cab. These plates hit the operator when he jumped out of the cab during the overturning incident.
The plates in the picture look like the type of load spreading plates that may have helped to prevent this type of ground failure in the first place had they been in use.
The securing points for these plates can be seen on top of the crane chassis in the same picture.

unfortunately, this type of incident also still occurs in the UK.
