Hi,

I would say maybe not, but this depends on your role in the construction industry.

To be honest, IOSH is one of the best organisations as it has various specialist groups available including construction and provides you with a route to becoming chartered etc. and of course this forum provides you very quick access to industry practitioners who are a fantastic resource if you need assistance.

Other safety organisations include:

ROSPA - http://www.rospa.com/

The International Insititute of Risk and Safety Management - http://www.iirsm.org/

the Association for Project Safety - http://www.associationfo...fety.co.uk/headlines.php

May all be relevant depending on what you're looking for.

May I add to the list of other organisations that you may find useful the British Occupational Hygiene Society. This is not a professional body but a learned society (incorporating the professional Faculty of Occupational Hygiene) and is very broad mixture of people with widely differing skills within the field of occupational hygiene, health and safety. Try www.bohs.org for more information.

May I recommend the "North West Construction Safety Group". I used to attend when I lived in the North West.

They are a forum based in Manchester where, for a small fee to cover expenses companies can join and, usually their safety advisers, meet monthly to discuss relevant topics.

HSE representatives also used to attend the meetings and update the members on the latest H&S initiatives, etc.

I don't have contact details but if no one else can provide them I'm sure I could get you a name and phone number.

Hope this helps

Hi
I was yesterday on IOSH meeting in Eccles, and I prefer to join some Construction Safety Groups because i work in this industry and i think i will stay here for longer. As i am new in H&S profession(i am 21 years old, got Nebosh General, and i am doing Nebosh Construction, and i work like H&S Manager for just 7 months) i try to find best way to improve my H&S knowledge.

Also i was on 1 meeting of Merseyside and Cheshire Construction Safety Group but they hold their meetings in Liverpool.
Martyn- I tried to look for this safety group in the net but their homepage looks bit old

If you can provide me some contact details...
