Posted By Dave Adams CMIOSH Did a search but didn't find anything. Does anyone do eye tests for company drivers? As we all know the Highway Code says you must be able to see number plates from 'x' feet (or 'y' metres if you have gone metric). Logically then if a person is employed as a driver ( for delivery / collection or as a sales person, etc) then their vision should be tested and where necessary specs provided.
Can anyone help? Please don't bombard this thread with responses regarding VDU eye tests as this is sorted.
Many thanks
Dave

Posted By Alison WR Dave,
We require people who drive for us in the course of their work to have an eye test and we pay for the test.
If their vision meets the DVLA requirement, but is imperfect, then we will contribute towards the cost on the basis that any visual impairment can increase the risks of fatigue.
If they don't meet the DVLA requirement but it can be corrected, then we expect them to pay for their own glasses.
If their vision cannot reach the DVLA standard even with correction, then the optician must tell us, and we ask if the optician has also written to their GP.
Regards
Alison
