As this is a discussion forum, is it possible to have a voting system so you can set up an online poll (you know the type just about every other forum has).

If not, why not?

Not for me.

It would probably limit the health discussions and banter.

What is there to gain or prove

What buttons?

good, bad, ridiculous, don't understand, on the fence!!!
What would trigger the need to vote and if there was a contentious issue, what if anything could be done about it?

Robert,

I think he means a Poll that would be for example on the right hand side of this web page. It would have a question a week e.g....

Do you like the CDM 2007 Regs?

Yes o
No o

You would then tick one and you see a chart with the results on. you get these on alot of forums.

Gary,

I think you will find that the current AUG's would prohibit such a poll and you would have to lobby the powers that be to have them changed.

Can't see how it would breach the AUGs.

Of course, it will never happen, because IOSH likes to control the forums. Voting / polling systems can produce outcomes which can't be controlled.

Hi Garyh,

Thanks very much for the suggestion, this is certainly something which is being considered for the future.

You may not be aware, but work is well under way to completely re-develop the entire IOSH website and discussion forums. As part of this we’ll be looking at a range of new features (polls included) that should bring the website and our forums right up to date.

As I’m sure you’ll appreciate, this is a massive project which will take up an increasing amount of webteam time and resources in the coming months. We therefore need to carefully prioritise all new website developments so that we can keep up the momentum on our largest project – creating an entirely new website!

You’ll see from another thread started earlier today (http://www.iosh.co.uk/index.cfm?go=discussion.view&forum=1&thread=27743&page=1) that we have recently introduced lots of new online features and services, and there are several more in the pipeline. So watch this space for more developments coming soon!

You may also be interested to know, that we regularly use groups of IOSH members to get their feedback and suggestions on various projects. If you’d like to get involved, please visit www.iosh.co.uk/volunteer for more details.

Thanks again,

Neal Clark, Web Co-ordinator

Precisely which bit of the AUGs prohibit it?

My point is that the forum managers would need to equip it anyway via the web designers. They won't do that though.........

My comment was made because I recall a thread being locked and the observation made was that it was "a poll"

I think AUG 3 would be used which prohibits "surveys"

I personally believe that your idea has some merit but, as the rules stand I don't think you would get it approved.
