Posted By Darren J Fraser Hi Having searched the forums this does not seem to have been asked previously. We are a non unionised company, therefore our representatives are elected by the workforce. I would like to develop them further with training, thereby encouraging the development of a safety culture and ownership Question - what subjects and for how long should I look at providing? My initial thoughts are simple law, understanding risk assessment, basic accident investigation and safety auditing/inspections, total time 4 - 5 hours. Would appreciate any other thoughts, comments or observations. Many thanks

Posted By Lilian McCartney Hi Darren, I would also include something about reviewing policies and procedures (we ask this of them) so they know what to do and how to go about including the employees they represent. I also have a flowchart for their role if contacted by an employee about a H&S point. Lilian

Posted By B Smart Hi Darren, If any of your reps are union members they may be entitled to Health and Safety training sponsored by the TUC. Courses available include: COSHH Risk Assessment The Environment Safety Reps stages 1 & 2 TUC Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (accepted by IOSH as entrance to IOSH at TechIOSH grade) There are plenty more courses on offer to safety reps who are union members and they are free. Hope this helps. B. Smart
