At my last place we did this. The walkways were painted yellow for visibility and the width was one metre. The one metre came from the distance that two people could walk along together comfortably. We also painted a picture of a walking man on the ground at periods and mounted signage outside the gate to advise people to use the walkways on entering the site.

Tony,

I undertook some research regarding car parks and barriers (entrance / exit) and walkways. I recall using the BSI web site to search for some relevant standards and them viewed them at the main library and found some useful information in them.

I can't remeber which ones they were but it is worth a search via BSI.

Hope that its of some use,

Alan
