Hi Guys,

I have some potential hot works looming for a client and I noticed that the licensed contractors guide only provides an overview of Asbestos Hot Works.

I can vaguely remember the original guidance document giving appropriate rest times depending on temperature in the enclosure.

My questions therefore are:

1. What is this document?
2. Is it still used or has it been superceded?
3. If it has, is there further guidance on asbestos hot works besides the contractors guide?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen.

The document was EH57 - it has been withdrawn I believe, for the reasons given in the 'Contractors Guide' ("Hot working and asbestos removal are almost incompatible activities"). Despite that it might be useful as a starting point to indicate what may be involved.

If the hot works are unavoidable I would suggest you involve HSE for 'discussion' at an early stage. Following their guidance and using the advice of an Occ. Hygienist should enable you to undertake the project successfully.
