Posted By tony fog Keep it simple, a visual inspection is what it says, just look for the obvious signs of damage to areas such as the plug or the flex, any areas damaged that could be be contaminated by fluids or come into contact with people.
Then record this on a asset register along with the date and who performed the inspection . you may want to creat a quick checklist on XL so you just tick off the obvious.
Most of all keep it simple!!

Just that it has been done.As the above response stated; 'keep it simple'. Many advocate depending on the nature of the equipment carrying out a visual before every use; whilst I accept that might work in the field when equipment is under multiple operator use and subject to the elements , you are hardly going to do that with the ol office printer and similar; it is worth defining what requires what and to what level of frequency.

Posted By Mr Expect The recommendations in relation to how often an item should be formally visually inspected varies from item to item from where, what, how, when it is used. We operate residential homes and as a rule of thumb we do visual inspections every month on items that are held in the hand for use i.e. irons, vacuums, hair dryers etc. and every three months for everything else.
