Posted By Hayley McBride Hi everybody, I was wondering if anybody else out there had the same despondency as me over the lack of courses and events organised by IOSH in N.ireland?. I am starting my IPD and am just counting up the cost of attending a single course at IOSH let alone several. I know there is a N.Ireland branch but they seem to have meetings only a few times a year. Perhaps us Northern Ireland folk should start applying pressure for us poor people in the outback!!!. Anybody else feel the same??

I'm in the middle of my first 2 yrs CPD and understand how you feel, travelling to the main land for courses can be very expensive.
N.Ireland branch meetings are held in various locations throughout the province every second month, if you email the secretary you will be sent the branch programme for 2007.
Don't feel that you must attend courses at the Grange in order to achieve points for IPD/CPD there are lots of ways to gather points here at home and lots of local training providers also.

Posted By Philip McAleenan Hayley,
Try not to be too disparaging about NI, or despondent about the branch in NI. We do try to have a sufficient number of meetings throughout the year to allow members to participate and I would be happy to see you there at some point. Since September we have had meetings of the branch in Belfast, Ballymena, Lisburn and Derry covering topics such as CDM, Smoking Regulations, the new fire regulations, traffic management regulations and have had debates on the status of the profession, salaries etc.
Last month we organised a conference in Cookstown with speakers form North and South of Ireland, on the new construction regulations in the South, and a speaker from Canada gave a very good presentation on motivating people at work.
The two Irish branches are celebrating 25 and 40 years as IOSH branches this year and both have been working closely together since last autumn on a major conference and gala dinner for this coming September.
As you will know, the annual general meeting is scheduled for Greenmount College on the 12th next month. Come along; present your ideas and thoughts on what you want the branch to organise for the 2007/2008 year, volunteer your services to make them happen, we always need people to take on some of the workload. Do that, talk to your colleagues in the branch, take part; it’s better than shouting to the world what an awful place NI is.
And what’s more, we’re very supportive.
Anyone else feeling left out, contact Brian, (the Chairman) or me at next months Branch AGM. We’re easy to spot, we’ll be sitting at the top of the room.
Regards, Philip Branch Secretary

Posted By Hayley McBride Thanks very much to both of you. I didn't realise the N.I branch had as many events. when I joined IOSH it said they would pass my name onto my local branch but I never heard anything. Philip would you be able to send me out or even email me a list of events for this year, I would certainly like to go to as many as possible.
