I know its sounds crazy, but does anyone know if its a mandatory requirement to install smoke detection in a warehouse in Poland.
I am doing some research on this and was lead to believe it was not mandatory under polish law.
If its is there anywhere i can get the relevant references in English. I have been searching high and low and come up blank. Any help would be great.

At the risk of being shot down in flames, are they even required in UK regulations?

"Automatic fire detection systems are not normally needed in Office, Shop and commercial Assembly and recreation, Industrial, Storage and other non-residential areas. However there are often circumstances where a fire detection system in accordance with BS 5839: Part 1 may be needed. For example:

where fire could break out in an unoccupied part of the premises and prejudice the means of escape from any occupied parts of the premises"

In essence I dont know Polish regs but UK regs would be dependant on many other factors than just "warehouse area" ie what is stored on what levels with how many exits and where occupied by who and how long and....

Hope this helps

Thanks , its a warehouse employing 400 people, storing up to 7 levels in racks, pallets plastics etc... no chemicals..
the good thing is they have installed a sprinker system.. but no detection other than waiting for the sprinklers to activate?? maybe its not law but surely from a prevention point it would be a no brainer?

I can't be certain on the Polish Regs but I would assume that the European Framework Agreements that our fire legislation is based upon also applies to Poland as they are now part of Europe. Therefore the need for AFD would be based on risk assessment rather than any mandatory requirement.
