Hi
My friend had couple days ago accident on site.

He was hitted in shoulder while he was working on platform around first level of scaffold by falling drill from 4 floor.

This folk who worked above was working on ladder, job was longer than recommended 15 minutes by HSE, no signage about work at height, no barriers etc.

His shoulder is not broken but because of accident he is longer than 3 days off work.

His employer is saying that he should provide doctor note or sick note from his doctor as a prove that he is sick.

Does he really provide thing like that, because i never meet with anything like that?

And what legal steps his employer could take to minimise importance of accident?

HSE will talk with any witnesses or injured person to take their visions?

Anyway could you provide me information maybe what i am not aware and which could be important?

Self certification is only required in the first instance; further time off will necessitate him to provide a GP note.

It looks as if the company has filed a RIDDOR report, and as such the HSE may or may not decide to investigate the matter.

He may wish to report the matter directly himself, this is a matter for him to decide upon.

Your question specifically addresses the proof side of events from a sick note point of view; and as stated initially self certification is all that is required.

If you respond further or require further information can you PLEASE BE CERTAIN to NOT name your friend or the site or any companies involved?

Ok i am not sure if his company has report this to HSE but i know that they have to or anyway probably he will contact them...

And if he is not registered with local GP over here, can his hospital where he was treated straight after accident provide this proof right now?

is he absent because he is sick = probably not he is probably absent because of an industrial injury - take advice [its free] from the citizens advice service / social services as to terminiology to use

I would not be supprised if his employer had not completed a RIDDOR
