I am interested in anyone's practical cons relating to the use of MCWP instead of the use of scaffolds. Please advise?

I suppose it depends what you are going to do to the mast and what duration the works are, what height you need to achieve, and how versatile you want that access to be.
Would require a little more to answer properly; your question at the moment is a bit to broad.

I assumed perhaps incorrectly that you were making reference to a 'MCWP' Mast climbers & Mast Climbing Work Platforms; apologies if you were not.
