No doubt some wise sole with suggest that this posting is rubbish but I'm hoping that there will be some more entertaining responses. I keep reading about smokefree issues and the colour of labels and fire extinguishers! There used to be more interesting stuff than that on this forum...

Posted By JayJay Hi DRB !
I agree with Shaun ! My perception of this discussion forum is for people to pool information and bounce questions off each other, both for those with little experience and those who have it in abundance ( Or think they have Haha). I find it very interesting and hope that others feel the same. Whether people think there questions are stupid or not keep them coming ! At the end of the day you learn by your mistakes eh !

Posted By J.D.F DRB, depending on what level of education you have and at what stage in your H&S career your at then it's very likely that questions will come up and repeat themselves! .Ive just done my Construction Cert and for sure in the future i may be asking what might seem silly questions on here ...chill man ...(woman)

Posted By Jonathan Breeze DRB,
There is a certain amount of repetition on the forum, but that's only because a subject is topical.
Smoking is the issue of the moment for several reasons, not least because there are separate sets of Regulations for each of the home nations, it's controversial and there are several anomalies and unclear areas that keep popping up.
Similarly, there is a set syllabus that folk follow for their studies, which means the same questions pop up.
If you really want to read an interesting post, then why not start the discussion yourself?
How about: "Occupational health & safety - an inalienable human right or a 1st world luxury?"
Feel free to start a new thread on it if you want.

Posted By GARRY WIZZ Yeo,
Absolutely, all questions I know the answers to place them in the 'silly billy bin' person mus be a plon***** .
All the ones I can't answer are very high tech and I got lost in the question.
Serious, yes a little tolerance required, but I was myself quite stupid at the start.
So I don't mind as you do get some jems turn up on this forum that has on occasions been of great help to me.
As for smoking,
I put up stickers, told em not to smoke, told em to not bother me with the minor issues as I am here to stop accidents and comply with serious legislation. So I am prioritising my work load and this issue is worth but a few mins tops.
And they listened, which was wierd.......

Posted By Bob Baynes I don't know what to say about this post by DRB. Eel be casting his net out to see what he can fish out I think. This is an attempt to skate on thin ice. I cod not see any benny fish in it myself. A crabby comment from a shellfish point of view perhaps? Should we tell him he conger a life or would that make us prawns in his game? Or perhaps he thought it was fry day.

Posted By Rob T DRB,
As they say on "Who want's to be a millionaire", "it's only easy if you know the answer". Just because you know (or think you know which is mlore pertinent) doesn't mean that everyone else does. I posted a thread on here about cryogenics - didn't notice you replying. Don't denigrate people for wanting to know an answer. Questions aren't stupid but some of the answers are.
I've seen this kind of thread before on the Forum and in my opinion they normally come from the pub know-it-all who want's everyone to think they do - normally they don't!

Posted By Heather Collins Gff - the fish thing arose because the original poster said "No doubt some wise sole...."
Now everyone's going to carp on about it all day. :)
Serioulsy though, one person's silly question is another person's must know topic. If you don't like the continual postings on the same subject then don't read them.

Posted By Tracey C As a new member of IOSH it took me a long time to pluck up the courage to post a question on this forum as i felt silly not knowing the answer. We all started at the bottom and some people tend to forget this! And some of us read the answers for a laugh (they are all a bit boring in my office, start laughing and its yellow van time)
Love the fish thing!

Posted By Gwahir Hi,
I was the “stupid” person that posted the “orange label thing”. I hold an Msc in H & S, a Degree in Management Studies, am a Charted Member of IOSH, under took the NVQ level 5. Have the Specialist Construction Certificate, Planning Supervisor as was, Asbestos Surveyor, CITB qualifications in Cranes, WAH, Excavations, and Scaffolding. I am also an instructor on counter balance/reach trucks and MEWP. I also hold the Noise assessor qualification; if this was not enough I have sat and passed the AIEMA certificate and am currently awaiting my results for the NEBOSH Specialist Environmental Diploma.
In my time, I have worked for the largest remover in the country, the biggest L.A. contractor in the UK, the largest petroleum company and the biggest fizzy drinks maker. I have been a safety professional for close to 12 years now. I state all this because, if I do not know the answer to a question, I most certainly am not afraid to ask someone who may know. I think this forum is a wonderful place to “SHARE” and learn. The one thing I have learnt and I am sure all the aurgust bodies in the world will testify to this; is you are not expected to know everything but you should know were to get it from. That is why I will continue to ask questions on this forum.

Posted By Kevin Drew Have we not all over reacted here?
DRB never said anybody was stupid or silly, that the postings were repetious or denigrating, all he suggested was that recent posting were less interesting than they had been in the past.
Personally, I look on here 3 or 4 times a day and I have to admit that of late the posting have been a little dull (until now) and sometimes lack the entertainment value that they once did (yes I know that safety isn't meant to be entertaining).
Perhaps the moderators are doing too good a job?

Posted By garyh Has anyone else noticed how some people in the profession say that they use this forum, but only to "post replies and offer advice" ie they never have to ask for help themselves........
Me, I have had 20 years in the game, and still have a lot to learn. I also know quite a bit!
Remember also, there are no daft questions, but lots of daft answers..........

Posted By Darren J Fraser The only stupid question, is the one that never gets asked.
Personally I learn a lot from this forum, about things that may not be of interest to me regarding the particular industry I am employed in, but help me as an individual extend my knowledge base.
Please keep posting the 'rubbish', I find them most interesting and enlightening.

Posted By alan noble Is a discussion forum, a'chatroom' or a 'debating chamber'? I only found it because I 'googled' smoking shelters,so don't worry DRB the likes of me will probably slope off into the sunset once the ban comes in. I may come back every now and again and lob in your hand grenade of a post to see what stirs. I honestly think it is worth doing this every now again to get people to post (and if this was your intention - it is pure genius). Although you seem to think the worst thing that can happen to a forum is people puting rubbish on it (in your view), it isn't. It is having a forum that nobody uses because they feel inhibited to. So the golden era of posting may yet return or it may be like other golden eras that people are nostalgic for, its all in the mind.

DrB speaking - just wondering about the rubbish on the forum!
I hadn't noticed you until recently on the forum, (and you have been quite lively recently; when no rubbish ever appeared) - but I am sure it must just be a coincidence.
