How do absent landlords arrange for testing of fire alarm systems if they only visit the premises occasionally? Especially if the tenants cannot be relied upon?

My view was that weekly test is standard frequency for alarms, monthly for emergency exits etc. but I have a client finding it difficult to comply!

This must be a common issue - has anyone a simple solution?

I have many clients in property management businesses where weekly tests cannot be done as there is nobody on site. The pragmatic response is to carry them out whenever they visit site, with long-stop dates and keep records off-site.

Why mention "Scots" in the title, are you inferring anything?

The scots reference was nothing sinister - but I wanted to know if the Scotland Fire Safety 2006 regualtions or HMO guidelines might have a twist not known to this unionist!

My understanding is that there is little difference now that gov.uk has documented guidelines for fire risk assessment - but practices do not always reflect this!
