I have an interview next week for a safety position with a large manufacturing company. I have been asked to give a 10 minute presentationon the following topic:-
"In an organisation of more than 500 people, describe your approach to enabling people to choose to behave more safely"
Can anyone please pass on any ideas that may help. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have you considered basing your presentation on the 4 C's?
Communication Co-operation Control Competence
10 minutes is not a lot of time but the above is a suggestion to start you thinking.

Posted By Merv Newman Right. I'll go along with the "best of luck" but I have always advised people in the "job interview" position to take the trouble to develop their own presentations.
You have to research the material, produce the presentation, think about what and when you are going to say whatever. Rehearse it. Refine it.
Then you will know it and can present it with confidence.
Tomorrow is Sunday. Do not take the kids to the park. Do not go visit the mother-in-law. Do not cut the lawn.
Walking the dog is OK. (thinking time)
Work for your future.
The wife, the kids, the dog and maybe even the M-I-L will understand.

I totally agree that my own ideas should be researched and used in my presentation. I can talk about my own ideas with belief and I think that would show in an interview. What I am looking for is just a few pointers as to how to format the presentation. Your comments are much appreciated.

Posted By John Watson As an employer I would suggest you make sure you are very enthusiastic and dynamic. My view (as an employer) is that I can teach you almost anything, apart from enthusiasm and dynamism. Therefore if you have got those two I know I have got the potential for a very good employee.

No more than 10 slides. Have it on a key, a CD-ROM and OH transparencies. And also be prepared to just talk. (things can go so horribly wrong)
First slide will show your name, qualifications and past experience. 5 lines maxi. This shows your competence. And gives you chance to chat about yourr successes.
Then you can do a slide which lists your following slides
Next slide shows recent legilsation. WAH, smoking and so on. This shows that you are up-to-date. You could even talk about "substantially unenclosed" Might get a laugh.
Now you are swinging and can talk about your vision for the future of the company. 9000/14000/18000 etc. You can use 4 or 5 slides for this.
Finish with a photo of them being handed the cup-winners-cup by her majesty the queen. Or a reasonable facsimile thereof.
Keep the slides clear and simple. I don't do fancy backgrounds and I stick to one style of character, arial. Colours I use are most usually deep blue or green. Five lines per slide.

Posted By jackw. hi Can't agree with Marv more and have a recent example. i had an interview a few weeks back. spent a lot of time on my presentation got to the interview, computer problems and couldn't present it. I always take paper copies of any presentation for panel members.. used these to just talk through the presentation so at least I had that. Although I must confess it did throw me off and i was a little bit angry. After all I spent my time putting the presentation together least they could do was make sure I could present it. Didn't get the Job. Whilst it may not have been the main reason the fact that i couldn't do my presentation as expected didn't help, especially as generally my presentations are the strongest part of my application. SO BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING IS THE LESSON.
