During the recent flooding our car park at work has been left under three feet of water.Adjacent to this is an area that is home to various farm animals. Now the water is subsiding, what do we need to be on our guard against? We are concerned about disease coming from stagnant waters.Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

Regards

Hi - I would have thought that once the drains had taken the water away there would only be a very low residual risk of infection.
If your people are on their hands and knees in the car park then the risk would be higher.
Usually, the current rain fall we are getting will be enough to clense the area.
Stagnant water is definately a problem at any time, but unless you are in food industry I suggest you take it one day at a time - get staff to wipe their feet entering the premises and get the mats cleaned regularly.

Thanks Ben
i am concerned with animal waste, bedding etc coming through to us.i fear the water may well be around for a while yet as the local river(tidal trent )has burst its banks and we are still on floodwatch alert.

There's some very good advice in an update on the Health Protection Agency website at http://www.hpa.org.uk/flooding/guidance.htm which should set minds at rest.
