Hi guys, we are about to have our roof removed and replaced. My concern is the amount of dust that will inevitably find its way into the premises. How much of a hazard is it likely to be, given that it will not be possible to ensure it is all removed.
Is anyone aware of any reference or studies I could have a look at?
I've already searched the forum(all 75 items) without success.

Thanks

John

The only 'public domain' data that I know of can be found in HSE guidance doc HSG 189/2 Working with asbestos cement - a table (Table 3) of typical fibre concentrations from various activities.

Hope this helps as a starting point

Thanks Doug. Have also come across HSL 2007/11 the Annex of which contains more detailed figures.

Spot on, I'd forgotten about that one!

Interesting to note how many activities approach or exceed the 'Control Limit', probably indicates how easy it is to get this type of work wrong.

In the absence of additional data (from our helpful colleagues reading this thread?), maybe you could use 'worst case' figures (as published) for your risk assessment and have suitable monitoring undertaken when the work is carried out - you've probably figured this out already though.

Regards

Go to HSE website and download the task sheet A14 and this will tell you how to do it.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/as...tos/essentials/index.htm

This is a low risk process if done properly so follow the task card
