Posted By Larry Shannon Have been approached by a number of maintenance fitters on site ( pharma) they currently where same hard hats as construction workers but are wondering about bump cap's instead. I understand their problems, small access areas, little risk of objects falling on them, but plenty of risk of bumping in to vessels and pipework etc. hats are heavy, uncomfortable in this weather( mind u its still raining here today) Approx 50 staff out of 380 affected. Any views? Larry

Posted By Richie H Hi Larry, We trialed and then used in the Aircraft Maintenance Industry for maintenance crews working under aircraft - accidents have been reduced for sure. There are problems with respect to wearing other PPE with them such as ear defenders etc. However they provided further protection from the sun and employees overall preferred them to hard hats, and would wear them! We used First + Bump Caps. Cheers, Richie

Posted By Sally In a paper mill many years ago we successfully introduced bump caps and had no problem gettng people to wear them. We spent a little more and got ones that look just like baseball caps and they were also more comfortable as they are adjustable.
