Posted By Anna B Dear All I'm trying to help somebody I know to find the best way to get into contaminated land, land remediation, environmental impact assessment sector. He currently has over 3 years of Environmental Management/Lead Surveyor experience dealing with hazardous substances (asbestos, antrax, lead, etc), however is looking for something more challenging and in line with his Msc in Environmental Management (Sustainable utilization of natural resources). There are a lot of agencies out there, whom he already contacted, however they are very reluctant in suggesting a "new-comer" to their clients. Therefore, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any other way to get into his dream job. All comment and ideas are welcome. Regards, Anna

He needs to find the environmental (and multi-diciplinary, e.g contaminated land, geotechnical, geoenvironmental) consultancies, check their websites for any positions going, and then send in an CV anyway. Use Yell.com to find those in his area. If he hasn't already, some nice bedtime reading might be CLR's 7 - 11 from the EA, let him know what he's up against ;) Jo

Posted By JH Has he tried looking at the CLARCC website (an academic body rather than a specific agency, so I hope I can mention it)? It has a good list of links including vacancies and companies in the business who might be recruiting. An alternative is to look into some of the clients of the specialist consultancies. One sector doing a lot in contam. land/remediation is nuclear (and not just radioactive contamination), especially that part of the industry in decommissioning. Try the government's NDA website for a list of sites/organisations. Some do this type of work in-house, or at least have in-house expertise to manage the specialist contractors.
