I am looking to continue my academic study with a PhD in H&S, safety management or related topic. My MSc dissertation centred on human factors.

I have already tried www.jobs.ac.uk and came up with zero. Any ideas of where to look or who to contact??

Depends on where you are and how you would prefer to take the course but the University of Strathclude SCOSH Department (Scottish Centre for Occupational Safety and Health were thinking of initiating a PhD programme, at least they were a couple of months ago.

Try speaking to Colin Thorne -Course Director, his secretary Elaine Richman can be found at: 01415484147.

good luck!

Chris, you could talk to the same university that awarded the MSc as a PhD does not necessarily need to be linked to a department or a course in the same subject.
I wish you lots of luck and if I can help in any way you know I will do - I will keep my ears open.
You could also look on the HSE and similar web pages to see who is doing research similar to any interests of yours and then try to find where they are based.

Chris, may I suggest you consider a new route work based PhD. This enables you to deliver a project within your working environment that has the depth of understanding as a PhD. I am currently looking to commence my PhD with Middlesex in September. Happy to talk through details with you.

Thanks to all for the information. Unfortunately there seems to be little research work openly advertised in our field at the moment.

Julie, I would love to have a chat with you about your suggestion. What is the best way to get in touch?

Chris, maybe you could try the listed researchers on the IOSH research page / microsite. Your local or preferred university maybe represented.

I am 3 years into a part time phd so please feel free to give me a shout if you want any other advice paul.clark2@capita.co.uk

Finally, buy the open university book 'how to get a phd' as it explains the phd process including the pros and cons of the new route phd process.
