HGV's will approach the site entrance along a single width road with traffic calming bumps.

As you pass through the gate (un manned) your top speed will be no more than 20mph.

Positioned at 90 dergress, at a distance of 45 mtrs from the entrance is an excavation for 3 sunken loading bays.

All being well vehicles will swing right and there is ample room to pass safely around the excavation.

However if you drive straight its straight into a big hole.

What would you consider to be the minimum controls that I should put in place to prevent a vehicle going 'in' which would not be good fro the driver or any workers in the excavation.

I have some thoughts but I know many of you have a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am not bashful.

Project does not commence till next month so will monitor for replies.

Thank You

Garry,

without being too glib....

a sign as a minimum.

Whether it is a directional arrow away from the hole or a warning that there is a hole is up to you.

You did ask for "minimum"!

I suppose you could write or telephone the haulage companies involved and ask them to tell the drivers about the hole but that would be less than minimal....if you see what I mean!

or both!

As a more than minimum, you could put warning lights, armco barriers, re direct the road, marshalls, claxons, bollards, information signs, traffic signs or signals, but you've probably thought of these?
