Posted By woody We have got contractors using a cherry picker on site to carry out some painting. Should the guy using it have hard hat, hi-viz vest and a harness on? (he is working alone) I know they should have a RA but i am not allowed to ask them directly for it as they come under the control of the Maintenance team (i have asked them to get it but to no avail) Thank you in advance

Posted By GARRY WIZZ A health & safety rep would be allowed access to the RA. One way of getting round the problem. Garry

Posted By The toecap What doea rhe risk assessment say? I would suggest that a hard hat isn't necessary. A harness is. But remember the two types. A fall arrest harness and a restircting harness. Does the user have training? Also our policy is 'never work alone at height'.

Posted By Barry Cooper I suggest the wearing of hard hat, as I know they can strike their head when moving the cage up near roof trusses etc. Harness yes, with fixed or adjustable fall restraint to prevent them falling out of or reaching out of cage. Hi-vis, I would say good idea but not essential, unless site policy for when he gets out of the cage Barry

Posted By JayJay Hi Woody ! I was just wondering what your role was on this site or premises ? If this maintenance team are subcontracted to your company hopefully they've been vetted by yourselves and they would then come under your 'Banner' of Health & Safety, which in turn means you have every right to see their SSOW and Risk Assessment along with all other relevant paperwork. But then if then they're not subcontracted to you i'll keep my mouth shut haha ! Regards JJ
