Posted By geoff whiteley Could you please advise on the provision of drinking water at work. Does the supply have to be labelled as suitable for drinking (or not) ? Are there any other issues to consider ? Many thanks

Posted By J Knight You have to provide a supply of clean drinking water (Workplace (Health safety & welfare) Regs 1992) It shouldn't need specific labelling provided its reasonably obvious, and unless it needs to be clearly distinguished from sources which are not for drinking. Just ask yourself if your workers will realise that they can drink from it, and will also be aware of any non-drinking water in the area; usually its the non-potable water that's labelled. Doesn't have to be from a tap, you can provide it in containers provided it remains clean fresh and readily available, John

Posted By Ken Taylor I do, however, make a point of labelling water that is not drinking water when it appears to be. An example of this is where 'kitchen type' sinks are installed (often in school classrooms) but the supply is from a tank. An after-school club were regularly making up cold drinks requiring dilution from such a source unaware of the source as an old uncovered tank in a dirty loft.
