Posted By brian mills Hello, When using Blotters - to Spread the Clamping Pressure Evenly is it Required on all Vitrified Wheels and Cut-Off Wheels above 400mm or 250mm? Where would I find this definition please? Regards Brian

Posted By Chris Jerman Brain, sorry that there has been a distinct lack of replies on this one. I would suggest contacting a principal manufacturer on this - someone like Universal Abrasives or Flex-o-Vit. My background (some while ago) actually was with abrasive wheels and we used blotters not to spread the clamping pressure as you put it but to even out the rough texture of wheels and discs to prevent slipping and subsequent damage to the flange face - I guess that they amount to the same thing in practice. I don't recall ever having seen that they were an absolute requirement in any particular application. Perhaps you be so good as to give us the benefit of your findings once you find an answer. Good luck. C

Posted By Catman Hi Brian HSG 17, paragraph 83 states that cut off wheels of 400mm or more must have blotters, less than 400mm must use them if slippage ocurs. Para 55 and 56 deal with other grinding wheels, there are no size limitations given but certain wheels are listed which should not have blotters used. I strongly suggest you get a copy of HSG17. Cheers TW

Posted By brian mills Thanks very much Chris, Yes I think what you are saying is very similar to my question. Thanks Catman, I have quite a few PDFs including HSG 17 but not on this computer, thanks for the informed response it's exactly what I needed. Regards Brian
