Hi Andrew,

All I know about horses is which end does the steering and to be careful when anywhere near the other end; however I have found this which might be of interest: http://www.equine-world..../horse_riding_safety.htm

After full and complete risk assessments we decided to no longer allow use of horses for transport too and from site for work purposes.

Andrew, may I suggest having a look on The British Horse Society Web pages. They have a good section on safety. The Jockey Club and Horseracing Regulatory Authority may be other ports of call.
