After initially thinking I understood this, i have calculated my AFR and it comes out at around 3.47 yet we have only had one accident
Bearing this in mind I notice companies are aiming to reduce theirs to 0.2, 0.1 etc and I cant see how its possible for me to compete with that

Obviously this depends on the number of employees you have dosnt it?
If 1 company has 10,000 employees and has 10 accidents they will have a better rate than a small company (you) which only has one.
The reality is, even 1 small reportable 1 off accident can cause a company a very high accident rate, which can have long reprocusions for the next 3+ years
If you have a large company and still have an acciudent rate that high after only 1 accident I would do your calculations again ;-)
