I have been asked to provide a written accident reduction strategy. I have identified bullet points for what's needed (as it's what's done on a daily basis) but was wondering if anyone out there has done anything similar which they would be willing to share so that I can check I'm on the right lines?
Any pointers gratefully received!

Hi
It really depends on the actual root causes of incidents that have occurred in the past and the observation of behaviour in the business.
The strategy should (in my view) deal with all internal mechanisms and root system causes as behaviour and incidents are often a symptom of wider issues rather than an actual cause.
Therefore many strategies only deal with the symptom not root cause. These could range from planning, supply chain management, recruitment and commercial tactics, rather than just guarding as an example.
I'm happy to review and comment if you want to email me anything you have done so far.
All the best
Ian

Thanks Ian, will be in touch off Forum.
I am amazed that no-one else seems to have anything in the way of an accident reduction strategy!! Is this something particularly unusual that I have been asked to come up with??

Am I missing the point here? If you have a safety management system in place which follows, for example the HSG65 model is that by its very nature an accident reduction strategy?

Following an audit, I have been asked to provide a site specific strategy. As we've managed to reduce both overall and RIDDOR accidents by means of implementation of controls, training, monitoring etc., to the extent that there hasn't been a reportable accident in nearly two years I'm kind of at a loss to know what else we can do to bring it down any lower than zero. Maybe I'm just having problems visualising what's being asked for, but thanks to Simon for the HSG65 steer.
