Afternoon

I have been asked to put together a training package for all levels of mnanagement (teamleaders upwards based in the UK) in respect of their responsibilities under H&S law.

To date I have covered the following

HASWA - Sec 7, Sec 36, Sec 37.

I have also covered the company SMS and defined duties for each level.

Is there anything that I am missing out. I do not want to just quote legals as they are likely to fall asleep, and need to jazz it up whilst at the same time ensuring that they retain the information

Any ideas, comments, pointers etc would be most welcome.

I do not feel that sending them on a 1 - 4 day course would be of benefit, and am trying to relate it specific to the company by using the local terms

This is quite a time sensative issue as my manager has asked to see a preview by the end of the week, and would like to keep it to no more than 2 hours.

You are right to keep senior manager sessions to short and sharply focused sessions.

There are a couple of presentations (and some papers) on Safety Exchange that might be useful in your preparations.

The two PPTs I am thinking of in particular are;

'Corporate Manslaughter Proposals UK 2005'. This presentation was used to present and stimulate discussions at Board level on the impact the proposed corporate manslaughter legislation in UK. It offers some pointers for corporations to consider how they may be affected and what they might do to ensure they can comply with its requirements.

(Note: This one predates Royal Assent for CM legislation last week but has some slides still relevant)

'Directors' Responsibility (Check its Safe)'. This presentation is designed to stimulate Boardroom discussion on director's responsibilities, in particular the guidance provided by the UK's Health and Safety Executive. It all addresses the corporate responsibility under the OECD principles of good governance.

I have successfully used both of these at many Board room briefings.
