Posted By kaza Can anyone tell me whether or not belt type harnesses are legal to use in this country?

Posted By Colin Reeves If you look at the Arco website they do sell a safety belt which complies with EN 358 - see 436500 Restraint Belt with Adjustable Restraint Lanyard
As such I suspect legal is OK, but not for fall restraint purposes but only as a restraint.

Posted By David AB Thomas Waist belts are not suitable for 'fall arrest', but may be used for 'work restraint'.
See BS 8437: 2005 for further advice.

Posted By David Bannister I am a great believer in belt harnesses for keeping people in cages or on MEWPS, preventing them climbing on to the bars or leaning out. i.e. as a RESTRAINT.
They should not be used as part of a fall ARREST system. I suspect that the effects of being stopped in a fall by a waist belt would be very serious and potentially fatal anyway if it's a long fall. I vaguely remember reading something about massive trauma to vital internal organs (liver, pancreas, stomach, diaphragm, lungs & heart etc).

Posted By kaza Many thanks for your reponses. This helps me no end on what to do about Hungarians/Spanish turning up on site with only belt harnesses when working at height.
