Hi everyone

As part of a risk assestment do people normally get Radon levels checked? I am thinking of some offices here in Ireland.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Seamus,

We have installed air circulators in some of our cellars to make sure Radon doesn't accumulate, so my answer would have to be yes,

Seamus

Are the offices in an area where radon could be a problem? In the UK, the NRPB (as was) has published information on where radon could accumulate in buildings; is there a similar document for Ireland?

Hi

Yes we have a map from RPII but they keep reviewing it, not always accurate, as it seems to be based on areas already tested, most of the guys i would be meeting would have smallish offices, but may have employees, i am thinking that it would be best if all offices ( on ground floor) were tested. Just not sure what everyone else thinks.
thanks

Hi Seamus,

I wouldn't have thought ground floors as such would be a problem. Quantities of emitted radon are very small, and its only where it can accumulate over time that there should be any kind of issue. Being considerably denser than air it will accumulate at low levels where there is little air circulation, such as basements. Ground floors will have doors, windows, and a generally reasonable level of circulation, so really shouldn't be an issue,
