Posted By Brian Has anyone had to organise a staff outing or off site party for company employees, (~10 staff) paid for by the company. What issues in terms of safety and 'duty of care' was considered as relevant for the employer. Are there any good links to web sites for information or guidance?

Posted By Cathy Ricketts We have done team building days where our staff were involved in volunteering. We looked carefully at the activities that they would be undertaking and checked that if there were reasons that any team members couldnt undertake these activities that there were alternative things they could do to be included. Checked that they had information on clothing etc for the day (this was also fun as we included a prize for the best decorated wellies). Full risk assessment was carried out in conjunction with the organisation running the event. Looked at things like how we were getting them to where they were going and any ground rules that needed to be set. Everything went very smoothly.

Posted By Brian Thanks Cathy, did the members of the group see the contents of the risk assessment and sign it to indicate that they understood it and agreed with it?

Posted By Cathy Ricketts They all helped write it as part of the planning process and a discussion about what should be in place with regards to safety. This works better than asking them to sign something that has been produced by "management". I am very lucky because as a result of the years of banging my H & S drum I have a pretty proactive group when it comes to H & S with a few exceptions they tend to ask before the event now rather than to tell me afterwards
