Posted By Dexter What can you say about working as a EHS Officer then at the same time as a Security Officer. In short, handling two departments in a newly established company. Im having a problem since I don't have people for EHS then i'm the only who knows how to operate the Security Access Control System for security concern as well as CCTV & DVR. Monitoring the security and safety & health is a big task to do. I can't even leave my office when i need to monitor all the workplace as EHS is concern. Hope to have some advise guys....
Thank you!

Posted By Heather Collins Dexter - I'm afraid you can say that's the way things are going these days - especially in manufacturing. I also deal with HS&E and security - including the CCTV (not watching all the time as it is recorded) and access control.
What specifically is your worry? Is it that there is part of the job you can't do properly or that you don't have time to do everything or is it just that you feel the roles shouldn't be combined?

Posted By Merv Newman Certainly in smaller, low risk companies, it is almost becoming the tradition for the"safety person" to add-on Health and Environment and site security (SHESS)
If your current job is security OR SHE then you will require training and appropriate resources to carry out your additional duties.
Have these additional responsibilities been defined in writing by your employer ? Do they provide adequate resources (time to do the job) ?
If the answer is "no" then I reckon that, in court, they will get a right thumping.
Cordially,
Merv

Posted By Dexter Since the company is starting-up, in EHS Dept., I'm starting to establish all about OSHS, PPE, HAZMAT,OHS Program, and many other things concerning Health and Safety & Environment as well as Security duties and responsibility. About monitoring the safety of people working and security, I'm having a hard time to go inside the plant and leaving the CCTV to no one at the same time the Security Access Control System (SACS). Since all is new, I'm lacking time of checking all areas of development. The hardest thing is nobody's supporting Health & Safety even managers in the plant doens't concern about the safety of the workers. All they are concern is producing output which I'm strongly against.

Posted By Dexter That's what's happening now, most of the time I'm making plans, developments and reports since I'm the only people concern about the safety of all employees and not even viewing the CCTV. This is also the first time I experience that I'm the one contacting the suppliers for PPE's for purchasing and out-sourcing and at the same time maintenance for the office, I'm contacting contractors and sub-contractors in which I can hardly do all the job at the same time.

Posted By Dexter Merv,
I can say that this is a big company, as of now we're only on the first phase of the company which is oil and lubricants and we are starting to build a grease plant and special products.
My current job is EHS Officer and since we are experiencing problem regarding Admin. they gave me the Security dept. in which I don't have any experience at all. Regarding training and education I already make a request concerning First-Aid and Safety & Health months ago but still I receive no response. They even request me to give the job description of an EHS Officer because they don't know anything about EHS since they come from a small trading company.
The main problem here is the management doesn't understand the main role of EHS in a company. I'm putting up a system for the two depatments I handle but almost all my request are pending resulting to no improvement because of lack of support.
If an accident occurs, it would be a big problem for me as a Safety Officer because it is my duty and responsibility.
