I have the Dip 1 and have been advised by SVQ provider that subject to IV of last three portfolios my Level 4 is complete. Once I get award through I can sign up for IPD and have GradIOSH as designatory letters.

I vowed that was it for me I would do my IPD, the oopen book assessment, hopefully get through the interview (mind you having heard CFT reports on interview this may be a brick wall)and get my chartered membership then RSP.

However.

I still want to expand my skills base and qualifications, environmental side seems a good option or maybe a higher level of training in H&S.

The criteria.

I am not an exam person, three cracks at Dip2 taught me that.

Workload is very heavy and likely to remain so.

I have kids and long suffering wife and want a life at weekends.

So can anyone give me some good directions to where next?

have a break [months] and recharge yourself then talk to IEMA for environmental areas remembering that competence is not just having an academic qualification

Homer,

Re environmental.

I took the NEBOSH specialist diploma in environmental management, 1 assignment, 1 exam.

I also believe that NEBOSH may be launching an Environmental certificate course soon.

I enjoyed the subject and felt that it both expanded and complemented my health and safety learning's.

IEMA also do some environmental courses that you may find appropriate for you.

Best of luck in what you decide to do.

Regards,

Alan

Hi Homer,

Bob's quite right, but if you want IEMA membership you will need to get some sort of formal qualification. There are two routes to Associate membership; you can do an open-book exam about which I know nowt but its on the IEMA website; or you can do one of a number of approved associate level certificates; these are roughly equivalent to NEBOSH Cert. I did mine with Key consultancy, it was a two-week residential (two blocks of one week with a month between); they have something like a 100% success rate at this level and they certainly did the trick for me. Full membership I believe requires a degree in an appropriate subject, unless the NEBOSH SpDip will now do that; at the time I entered IEMA it didn't so I didn't bother with it. Other associate level course providers are available,

John

I don't think that the NEBOSH SpDipEM gives access to full membership as you still need to take the open book exam to get associate membership.

I feel the same as you after doing my Dip 1 and 2 and do not wish to take any more exams at the moment.

I am thinking of doing the Associate IEMA distance learning course with Bath University. Have a look at their website.
