Posted By Regina Bueno Renke Here are the guidelines from WCB BC for blasting operations. It is an easy to follow regulations. http://www2.worksafebc.c...OHSRegulation/Part21.asp Make sure that the people doing the blast are certified, have a blasting plan, have an emergency preparedness plan. Make sure that proper equipment is used to dump the blast ( rubber tire mattresses minimum 2 depending on how deep is the blasting detonators been placed, when in doubt ask you project manager to consult with your registered professional civil engineering and geologist. The geologist can help you figure out certain details). Make sure that there is a pre-job safety instruction or tool box meeting before shift starts. Make sure that signs are properly post. If it has other trades in the area that proper coordination takes place. Know where are the first aid room, all first aid equipment, fire extinguisher, telephone numbers and proper emergency preparedness plan. Make sure all involved are using proper PPE, explosives are properly stored and if near vehicular area there is a trafic control person(s) and make sure before each blast an alarm goes off to call attention of all people around the blasting area that the blast will take place. One more thing, if this is near any residential area, make sure to sent letter to the civilian leaders in the community explain what is going on, so as not to alarm the public and give notices letters to firefighters' department, the OH&S regulatory body and the police as well. If in doubt review the whole plan with your OH&S regulatory agency. Have the civil engineer or registered professional overview your plans and make sure the Project manager is also in the loop. Don't take this responsibility on yourself alone. RBR PS: Disclaimer: The above is in no way consultation it is just a response to help. I am not responsible how this advise is used. RBR
