Has anyone any info on the safe usage of these items other than the usual of PAT testing cleaning filters and regular maintenance. What I am getting at is: are they prone to legionella?????

I don't think so. Legionella spreads from water vapours and mists. It also needs to be around 60degrees to live. I'm sure someone will correct me. However, being in the firing line of a cold air blast can cause mild flu like symptoms and people become nassaly.

No, they're just generally useless. Those closeby get chilled, and the overall heat load in the room is increased by the very nature and inefficiency of any machine. Focus your efforts in getting decent airflow.

Have to agree with Ron. The heat displacement out weighs any real benefit to one person. OK (ish) in a temporary structure with one person, one office with a window to pop yer pipe out of (metaphorically speaking).

Steve,
no risk whatsoever. No chance of any water mist being released so no risk of inhalation. Incidentally, with respect, Mr Toecap is wrong with his temperature. 60 degrees will kill legionella bugs, they thrive at temps between approx 20 and 40 degrees.
