Hi,
I have been notified that two team’s within our company will be attending an away day sailing. One team will be using a chartered vessel, the other a team member's private vessel.
I am reviewing this from an insurance perspective and I am going to facilitate a risk assessment with the organiser. To that end does anyone have any experience of:
• Health and safety guidance for sailing trips (Industry competence standards, maintenance schedules, communications requirements etc…).
• Notwithstanding the above any specific liability issues or experience of using an employee’s private vessel (or similar) for work/fun activities.
Thanks
Dave

Posted By Julian Wilkinson These have always been tricky areas to deal with (in my experience that is) mainly it is adequate insurance cover you are looking for.
I suspect you will find when you check out the Charter boat will be fine for handling corporate away days as they probably specialise in this, but you may have a problem with the other one being a staff members boat as to what insurance cover he/she has.
One other matter you that may need to be addressed is business continuity if one of the vessels sinks? for example; if your MD and CEO drown because they are both on the same vessel what impact would that have on the company?
