Posted By A.Dennis We are in the process of installing a gantry which has a drawbridge as part of it's structure to let vehicles pass through. Will this come under loler? or just puwer? Am treating it as loler at the moment but, am unsure as it technically does not lift? Would I be right in this thinking?
Thanks in advance

Posted By Martyn Hendrie In my opinion the equipment used to raise and lower the drawbridge will come under LOLER. (The load being the drawbridge)
Hope this helps

Posted By Paul Duell I had a discussion similar to this with a LA inspector in a previous job. In the end we agreed what the previous poster said - that the chains and other lifting equipment were LOLER and the drawbridge itself was the load.
I don't want to go into much more detail in a public forum as it might enable the employer and LA to be identified but if anyone wants more detail, e-mail me.

Posted By A.Dennis I think this is a close call, efectively the manual hoist uses the pulley as a fulcrum, so is effectively a lever.
Really, getting into symantics here but surely a crowbar use to prise out a rock from the ground or even a wheelbarrow could be construed to be lifting equipment?
