All,

I am feeling stupid again.

We do fire safety training with all employees during induction ( fire exits, types of extinguisher etc ) but what is the requirement for refresher training? Someone has just mentioned it should be annual but is this enshrined in any of the regs anywhere?

Hi refresher really depends on a number of things. I work for LA. For example staff in residential or day care are given initial training, instruction etc relevant to their location this is updated/revisited every 6 months using tool box type talks. They all also attend a one off 1 day fire safety/warden training course. However office type staff are given instruction on commencing work and then annually. Only designated fire wardens attend the 1 day course. As in all these things these are supplemented by planned fire evacuations. All goes well in these then relatively safe to conclude staff know what they are doing.
Thus for us level of training and refreshing are dependant on a number of factors:- level of risk, duty of care to staff and clients. As has been said there is no prescriptive on refresher training.

Hope this helps
