Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help. With regards to first aid does anyone have any sample risk assessments. My concern is when i had a look at some ones risk assessment which wasn't a risk assessment. It did not assess the risks, instead it highlighted the outcomes of a hazard which resulted into an accident

eg the risk assessment stated cuts and bruises was a hazard. Surely this is incorrect, and in fact is an outcome of a potential hazard. This specific assessment also concluded the number of first aiders they should have. I just could not get my head around.

How does everyone else determine how many first aiders they require apart from using HSE's guidance (eg 1 appointed person for every 50 staff etc)

Your help is appreciated

regards

I can't send you our First Aid risk assessment document but I can tell you that we developed a 3-section document for this because it's not just the First Aider who is exposed to risks.

1. Risks to First Aiders - considered cross-contamination from patient (blood etc); also failure to make a situation safe; also special risks at the scene of a vehicle accident

2. Risks to employees seeking First Aid - Saturday working; Lone working (although these are covered elsewhere); seeking aid if employee has allergies, illnesses, special medical conditions

3. Dealing with special injuries and machinery - this is where the assistance of maintenance or other persons are required to free a victim/patient, make hazardous equipment safe or deal with a hazardous material spill/splash.
