Posted By Taff2 Are there any published documents that give advice on the storage of chemicals in laboratories.
I know about oxidizers & flammables - common knowledge / sense - but has HSE documented this anywhere?
A colleague in Belgium states that they must have an LEV system when storing organics - but I do not recall seeing anything similar in the UK

Posted By Liesel Hi Taff,
To answer your question in broad terms, when considering storage I think you need to more clearly define what you mean by "organics." This is because the term "organics" if used in the context of "organic chemistry" is very broad and covers substances with a wide range of hazard classifications, which in turn effects storage requirements.
The requirements of both COSHH and DSEAR may be relevant, depending on each substance. So I suggest the approach should be to consider each substance (both individually and where relevant in terms of interactions with other substances), rather than a broad classification of "organics."
Liesel.
