We have a small commercial kitchen in our office premises, and need to prevent unauthorised access to it.

The obvious way would be to have a combination code lock on the door. As there will generally only be one person in the kitchen at a time, would this be acceptable as it would hinder entry to the kitchen in an emergency (e.g. kitchen staff taken ill, electrocutes/burns themselves etc).

Logic would be to use the combination lock when not manned, but put in a work procedure that when the cook is there the lock is left open.

Andy,

What about simply posting a sign, “No Unauthorised Entry”, or something similar?

If your target audience is adult would there be any problems with them understanding this and complying?

Regards, Philip
