Hi,

We purchased a new CNC Lathe around 12 months ago before i worked for the firm and had it commissioned about 5 months ago on site. We are now only receiving Technical Manuals and EC Declaration of Conformity for the machine which has many failing regarding H&S. The machine was not even affixed with a CE Marking by the Manufacturer but they do state it is CE compliance and have provided the DoC this week. Now comparing it to other CNC Lathes on site the Declaration of Conformity appears to be lacking many Basic EC Standards (this would the guarding and vision panels). On top of all this the Technical manual has no reference to safety devices, design criteria or residual risks nor does it provide any safety information at all apart a reference to fluorescent lighting(!) This is a a well know British manufacturer by the way!We have a procedure for purchasing new equipment now but to late for this machine.

Before i carry on berating these manufacturers can anyone point to a defined set of EN Standards that apply to CNC Lathes? I have already compiled what i think but would like another opinion before heading back to manufacturers.

Cheers, Gav

http://www.conformance.co.uk/

i have used this to help us sort of CE challenges so i hope it may be of use to you as somewhere to start ploughing through all the BS that come up. the harmonized standards are the best place to start.
if you then use the BSI global site you can refer the BS numbers and get a synopsis of content.
it is long winded but enjoy!!!!
