Posted By Ken John One of the managers in the company has asked my about packing when slinging and lifting steel sections with chain slings.
He wondered whether there was anything written in legislation/regulations/code of practice etc which states that packing must be used using a choke or bite when slinging steel.
I do not believe I have seen anything as specific as this. I have spoken with a trainer on the subject of safe slinging and lifting and he states that it comes down to the slingers competence. It is trained that should the link of a chain be resting on a sharp edge or similar of the steel, packing should be used to minimise any damage to the chain.
Does anybody know of any other information. Anything at all would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ken
