Posted By Barry Cooper I would appreciate some advice. I have undertaken a fire risk assessment of our office building. It has a ground and first storey floors. The 1st floor consists of toilets and one office (6 people) and has only one internal escape stairway that leads to reception and the final exit. The 1st floor office has two exit doors, one onto the corridor at the top of the stairs and the other directly onto the top of the stairs. I have recommended that the stairs be made into a protected stair with a door at the top on the corridor. Is it permissible to have the office exit door opening directly onto the top of the stairs, or better to close this off and just have the one into the corridor then through the new door onto the protected stair.
Hope this is clear, as I know what I mean.

Posted By GT Barry, You don't mention the travel distances involved or if the stairs is protected at ground level from the remainder of the building.
