Posted By Richard Beevers Has anyone out there set up a NON unionised H&S Ctte before?
I'm starting a committe afresh afeter years of it being a talking (moaning) shop, dreaded by management as well as reps. I've got both union and non-Union volunteers on board, and want to have a non-confrontational group, that can promote H&S and work towards solutions that will work on the ground.
If anyone has this set up (wishful thinking??), I'd really appreciate haveing a look at the Terms of Reference for the Ctte. as a good atarting point.
Any help, or tales of things to avoid, gratefully received.
Al.

Posted By Colin Reeves Richard The UK marine industry (on vessels with >5 crew) require a Safety Committee. The guidelines can be found in the Code of Safe Working Practices - a copy of which can be found on http://www.mcga.gov.uk/c4mca/coswp.pdf (big file >7Mb) - see paras 3.5 and 3.6 This gives some guidelines - there is NO mandatory involvement of any union representatives, although there is a recommendation that unions are consulted on the set-up of election procedures for safety reprentatives only. May give you a starting point. Colin
