I have always understood that being a Health and Safety practioner was like being part of a larger community, were you can seek and obtain advice from other like minded people. I have been a member of IOSH for over 10 years and was very disappointed with the reaction that I received this morning from a large DIY store. I had contacted them for advice regarding an assignment brief on FLT's in a large DIY store and was told by the risk management department that they had been advised by IOSH not to assist people asking for information as they should have had this information from tutors, so therefore they would not assist.

My belief is that if we as practitioners are to work in total isolation then the chances of improving safety is very limited, as having the ability to seek advice and guidance from people in all industries is what makes health and safety unique.

Umm, certainly not the experience I had doing the NEBOSH Diploma - most companies very helpful. Maybe a particular company being difficult?

Hi Peter.

Very much doubt that this advice came from IOSH.

You would be better off posting a thread on this site you would be sure to get a better response from us your fellow members than Big & Quality DIY stores
