Posted By Kerry Scott We are using the HSE Calculator and Manufacturer's measurement figures to identify exposure level for each of our tools. We are labelling each tool with the traffic light micro tag system.
I am keen to find out how often we should be carrying out measurements or by just taking the Manufacturer's figure the one time is enough?
We are doubling the manufacturer's figure to take into account the processes we undertake here and are carrying out planned maintenance.
Thanks

Posted By Ron Hunter There are a few issues to consider here. Perhaps the question should be how often do we review? You mention equipment, but are any of your people exposed above action or limit values. do you have health surveillance in place (where required)? Do you have an on-going regime if reduction of exposure sfarp?
Have you searched thru' the many (free) sources of web-based data of actual measurements of tools you use?
What are your procurement, maintenance, supervision,inspection/audit regimes like?
For my part, I would suggest that the doubling of manufacturer's data would only be a stop-gap measure for the first 12 months or so, thereafter more reliable data has to be found, and as a last resort a competent person commissioned to measure the tool in use.
