Pigeon droppings are associated with a flu like symptom called psittacosis and the only way I know of avoiding contact with it is by cleaning up the area and/or the removal of pigeons.

Hi Graham

The 3 diseases that people can catch from pigeons are histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and psittacosis. It is highly unlikley to for any of the diseases to be developed by healthy individuals. Provision of appropriate PPE to reduce exposure can be implemented - and prevents any dust stirred up being breathed in (e.g. use of dust masks, coveralls and gloves).

Don't know if this helps you, but thought I would share....you could also look up the diseases on the NHS direct website for more information.

Thanks
