Our annual Croner's renewal is due soon and I've been asked to decide whether to renew or whether it would be 'better and/or cheaper' to go with a different system.

We use both the Health and Safety and the Environmental but all we really need is to keep abreast of changes in regulations/acops etc and in touch with best practice etc.

Does anyone know of anything that we may find more useful or that may be cheaper?

Cheers

We were in the same boat. We ditched them because all we used was the legal update information.

We subscribed to the Defra, Netregs, Rospa & HSE e-newsletters, and joined Iosh (personally) and the British Safety Council.

We have found that these memberships, websites, magazines and e-newsletters have kept us more than up to date with legislation at a fraction of a cost then Croner.

I receive all British Standards, acops and legislation free through my university course (via Athens). I also get free access to Barbour index, OHSIS and lexis nexis through this. Obviously, when I finish my course I might look into subscribing to a information source.

Either that or i'll take another college course at a fraction of the cost.........!

Why not join IOSH. They send you a monthly magazine full of useful information and keep you up to date with regards to changes in legislation. If you need advice on H,S&E they are on the end of a phone.

HSE will also provide you with information regarding changes in legislation and its free.

We use CEDRIC H&S and Environmental. It provides Legislation, ACOPS and updates every quarter any changes. Very useful as it provides the Northern Ireland Legislation and not just GB as i found others do. Its reasonably priced as well- very useful aid!

We too have stopped using Croners. I now use Tips and Advice, Health and Safety and free resources on the internet including this forum. I must say to all the contributers here how useful and helpful I find their advice.

We use Barbour Index which we find really good.
Very easy to navigate and the newsletters are pretty good too.

All the best.

We cancelled Croner three years ago, and have not missed it.
We now subscribe to HSE Direct at much lower cost, also we receive the monthly e-mail magazine "In Touch" from JPD, this provides all HS&E updates etc
