Posted By stevehaigh Green emergency door release buttons - Our homes have these on some units and they are manually linked to digilocks, to open upon pressing, should the digilock unit also be linked into the alarm system just in case the emergency press button fails??

Posted By Ghaam Check with your alarm company usualy the fail safe. The system is always energised if the power fails to the door it will be unlocked (magnet de-energised or latch unlocked)

Posted By pluto Are the digilocks to stop confused residents getting out? They are more usually found on the access side of the door.
Whatever locks you have, you need to consider their use very carefully. If they are to keep confused residents in then de-activation on an alarm will let the residents out when they are at their most confused. (I am making a lot of assumptions here).
In some circumstances and with plenty of available staff it can be better to have key operated overrides.
Also be very careful as many devices do not, in all circumstances, fail-safe, even if the manufacturer tells you so.
You need to get a copy of BS 7273 Part 4 which details many of the pitfalls. Your engineer should be familiar with this. (If they are not..get a new engineer).
